The band’s Director of Music, Brian Dermott, started his musical career as a boy musician in 1965, enlisting in the Duke of Wellington’s Regimental Band as a flautist. Brian attended the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, from 1970-71 and was an instructor at the Junior School of Music in York.
Brian was posted to the following countries during his service: Hong Kong, Japan, Cyprus, Kenya, and Berlin playing at the fall of the Berlin wall, 5 tours of Northern Ireland, 2 tours of Germany and all parts of Great Britain, Scotland and Wales.
Brian ended his army career as the Band Sergeant Major of the King’s Regiment in 1991. Having moved to Norwich; he soon became an active member of the local music scene and conducted the Sillars Orchestra, Sprowston Brass Band and Enterprise Brass. Brian was appointed the Musical Director of the Norwich City Concert band in 1998.
In 2005 Brian was invited to conduct the newly formed Attleborough Youth Orchestra at there first public performance. In 1999 Brian founded and organises concerts in the City parks in partnership with Norwich City Council.
