2008: The Nancy Oldfield Trust
Each year Norwich City Concert Band is committed to supporting and raising money for a charity of it’s choice and we have had great success with this, having raised a total of over £5,000 for ten different local, national and international charities over the last 10 years.
This year we have chosen to support a local charity called The Nancy Oldfield Trust which is based at Neatishead, Near Norwich. This provides residential and day adventure activities for people experiencing either temporary or permanent physical, mental or emotional difficulties. The activities on offer include sailing, canoeing, motor boating, fishing and bird watching, all of which are available to anyone living anywhere in the country but are used extensively by local people in need.
We at Norwich City Concert Band believe this to be a valuable cause as it evidently provides a variety of benefits to those who are able use it. This includes the attainment of new skills, the opportunity to socialise with a different mix of people and a break for both the individual and their carers from ‘normal’ everyday activities and routines. However, like many local charities it is expensive to run and relies heavily on donations from individuals and organisations. As a result we have pledged to try to raise as much money as we can during this coming year as a contribution to this worthwhile cause.
